Garage or Garbage?

Garage or Garbage?

It’s a big day in the neighborhood here. I guess I could have said it’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood in tribute to Mr. Rogers. But, it’s really not that wonderful. In fact, it’s kind of lame. This is the day of the annual neighborhood “Yard Sale,” when we haul out the junk that we don’t want anymore and try to sell it to each other.

Who was the first person to come up with the concept of a yard or garage sale? One day, as they were taking their trash out to the curb, they stopped and said,

“If I scatter this crap around the yard, I might be able to sell it to the neighbors.”

Seriously, I just can’t bring myself to do it. How can I sell people things I no longer have use for?

“Why are you selling this shirt?”

“It’s ugly and itchy…that’ll be three bucks.”

Where’s Rob Rogers?

Where’s Rob Rogers?

It really started to sink in around March, when the Post-Gazette changed the entire comic’s section. I had been noticing some changes, like moving columnists from page two to the back page, which I found odd. But, the comic’s section was a total makeover and not for the better.

“May cause headaches, dry mouth, vomiting, dizziness and being able to see many fine people amongst the Neo-Nazi’s.”

Whatever I Can Do

Whatever I Can Do

If you’re unaware…and chances are you don’t know, it’s National EMS week. I said I would do what I could to promote awareness. Writing this seemed easier than standing outside and screaming about it at the top of my lungs.

My first dealing with Northwest EMS…and they may have had a different name back then. It was early in my comedy career. I won’t tell you the year because I don’t want you to have to call the paramedics for yourself. If you knew my real age it would probably send you into shock because of my good-looking, youthful appearance…yeah, OK…shut up.

Anyway, I had some friends from school, including John Chamberlin from “YaJagoff,” working as paramedics. They had been called to the scene of an accident where a little boy had suffered injuries that would require multiple surgeries. The family didn’t have the insurance to cover the boy’s needs, so the EMS group decided to do what they could to help.
